Adding subheadings to question options

When a question has a long list of response options, it can help with clarity to use sub-headings as part of the list of options.

For instance, a survey asking about particular neighbourhoods could group them into subheadings by wider district.

This guide will explain how to implement this using a Multiple-choice question, but the method will work with any of the the following question types:

  • Multiple Choice Single Answer
  • Multiple Choice Multiple Answer
  • All "Matrix" question types
  • Multiple Text Box
  • Semantic Differential

Adding subheadings to your list

To do this, simply mark the option with the following tag at the start:

For example:

For a question asking a respondent which computing devices they own, you could enter:

Windows
Apple Mac
[$H]Laptop computers
Windows
Apple Macbook
Chromebook
[$H]Tablet computers
Apple iPad
