Our new AutoCategorise feature which is now in Beta until April 1st, 2025. This enables our users on selected Plans to access our pre-release version of AutoCategorise ahead of it's general release in April.
AutoCategorise enables you to automatically categorise text responses, across your surveys to understand your data and identify insights in real time, saving your hours, days or weeks manually categorising data.
During this Beta period we welcome your feedback to better understand whats working well and what you feel could be improved.
Getting Started
Enable AI Response Features on your account
To enable the feature you’ll need to opt-in to our AI Response features at account level. Account Owners can do this via the Account Preferences page and sub users can request access via the AutoCategorise feature on the Text Analysis page.

Set up Categories
AutoCategorise uses the categories and descriptions you have created to analyse and categorise your open text responses for you. To find out more about the different ways to create categories, see our Text Analysis help guide.
AutoCategorise uses the category descriptions to inform how it categorises your responses, so it's important to consider:
- How broad or specific your category is
- Specific words, language of phrases that you expect to see
- Types of emotions you may expect to see such as "Frustrated", "Angry", "Excited", "Happy" etc
You can refine your descriptions and refresh the categorisation over time.

Enabling AutoCategorise
Once you're happy with your categories, you can simply enable the feature. Once enabled, your analysis will be queued to be processed which will vary depending on the number of responses. It should take between 1-10 seconds to process.
You can see the status of the processing from the Response Table on the Text Analysis page.
AutoCategorise enabled
Once you've enabled AutoCategorise on your survey question:
Existing Responses
Existing Responses will be updated with categories if they are relevant. You'll see the Pie Chart update to reflect the categorisation and you'll be able to filter by category, which will show only the responses related to that category.
New Responses
As new responses are submitted to your survey, AutoCategorise will categorise them in real time so your Text Analysis is always up to date. If you have used Text Analysis charts in your Results View or Dashboards, this data will also be updated in real time - find out more about using Text Analysis & Sentiment Charts.
Refreshing your Categories
You can refresh your categories from the Response Table. This is particularly helpful if:
- You identify new categories (filtering by Uncategorised Responses shows you any responses without categories)
- You identify sub-categories within your categories
- You want to refine the category descriptions
By refreshing categories, AutoCategorise will add new or updated categories to existing responses. It will not remove any existing categories.

AI Credits
For this Beta period up until March 31st, you’re account will include 1,000 credits for you to use to analyse your surveys. Each time you enable AutoCategorise on a question it will be limited to analysing 500 responses. In April when the feature is released there will be options to analyse larger numbers of responses.
If you run out of credits on your account during the Beta period you'll see an account level notification as well as a notification if AutoCategorise does not process all of your responses.
You’ll be able to contact our Product team to share your feedback and request more credits to continue using the feature during the Beta period.
AutoCategorise will consume AI Credits when it’s formally launched in April, and your plan will include a number of credits as well as the option to purchase bundles of additional credits depending on your analysis needs. Pricing will be confirmed at launch.
